Safety Programs
The true test of a great company is how well it protects the safety and health of its people. At the Savannah River Site, our record speaks for itself.
SRS continues to build on its rich legacy as one of the safest sites in the Department of Energy complex and one of the safest major industrial sites in the world. Protecting workers, the public, the environment, and national security interest are our highest priorities. We are proud of our strong safety traditions and remain unwavering in our commitment to the well-being of our workforce. We prioritize safety above all else, readily pausing work when necessary to ensure the safety and health of every team member. Driven by this shared conviction, we conduct our daily work supporting our nation and the world with the highest regard for safety standards.

SRS Safety Core Value
We conduct all aspects of our work safely, continuously improving in pursuit of injury- and incident-free performance.
SRS Safety Vision
We aspire to be recognized for our world-class safety culture; one that honors our history while proactively addressing the challenges of our current and future missions.
SRS Safety Principles
These are the key concepts that must stay in the forefront of our thoughts as we work each day.

Integrated Safety Management System (ISMS)
The ISMS serves as the cornerstone of our safety culture. This framework ensures that all aspects of our operations, including industrial, nuclear, security, environmental and radiological safety are thoroughly managed and prioritized.
- We are committed to achieving zero incidents and injuries.
- Our leaders are dedicated to fostering and maintaining a safe environment.
- Working safely is a fundamental condition of our employment.
- We report, investigate and address all incidents and safety concerns.
- We empower every team member to take proactive measures to prevent incidents.
- We view all experiences, including mistakes, as valuable opportunities for learning and improvement.

Voluntary Protection Program (VPP)
Over the years, SRS has continuously received recognition for its safety performance. VPP is a Department of Energy-sponsored program that emphasizes every aspect of an organization’s safety and health efforts. SRS is proud to be the largest and most complex organization ever to achieve STAR status in the VPP process. Achieving VPP status requires a strong commitment to safety from management and active employee involvement in every phase of the program. At SRS, we excel in both areas, demonstrating our dedication to maintaining a safe and healthy workplace.

Behavior Based Safety (BBS)
Although SRS has received numerous local and national safety awards and honors, and our injury frequency rates across the board are among the very best in the world, we will not be content until all injuries and illnesses are eliminated. To achieve this goal, we have implemented BBS throughout our site. Our BBS process is designed to be an integral component of our ISMS, supporting its principles and core functions. BBS has been instrumental in our national recognition within the VPP as the second site in the nation to achieve the prestigious Legacy of Stars award.
